A Heroine with Hidden Depths

by Abby Green, author of Awakened By Her Desert Captor

My latest book–Awakened By Her Desert Captor–features a heroine who, on the surface of things, appears to be totally confident and very sexually experienced. This is mainly due to the fact that she happens to have a job as an exotic dancer in a well-known and infamous Paris cabaret show. So, of course that means she’s a woman of dubious morals, doesn’t it?! Well, that’s what the hero chooses to believe, and because Sylvie is intimidated, irritated and captivated by him in equal measure, she does little to disabuse him of that notion at first, which leads to some serious consequences.

When I was working on this book I was thinking of a great quote by one of my favorite authors of all time, Linda Howard (Mackenzie’s Mountain), who said: ” If your hero is a firefighter, your heroine better be an arsonist.” And so, I had to give my hero a good reason for him to be opposed to Sylvie on every level, because of what/who he believes she is. Once I’d figured out why Arkim would react so forcibly to Sylvie, I had a lot of fun (bad author!) pitting these two against each other. Sylvie isn’t one to back down an inch, even when Arkim takes her deep into the desert and demonstrates just how vulnerable she is.

Arkim and Sylvie have to come to terms with the fact that they both have very hidden depths they’re not willing to reveal easily. And when Arkim discovers just how far removed Sylvie is from her dancer persona, it’s too late to turn back.

Thankfully Arkim and Sylvie manage to come out the other side of their very painful personal revelations, a little bruised and battered but ultimately, happier.

Oh, and did I mention the cutest puppy who has a starring role in bringing them together?!

Happy reading!

About Awakened By Her Desert Captor:

0316-9780373134175-bigwSeduction in the sands…

Cabaret dancer Sylvie Devereux and Sheikh Arkim Al-Sahid have never seen eye to eye—not from their first antagonistic meeting to their last intoxicating kiss. And certainly not when she publicly stops his convenient society wedding to her beloved sister!

Now Arkim wants revenge on the sinful seductress who cost him the respectable reputation he needs.

Luring Sylvie to his luxurious palace in the desert, he’ll get her out of his system once and for all. But with her sass and sequins stripped away, Sylvie is surprisingly vulnerable—and there’s one last secret Arkim’s not prepared for…her innocence!
