by Nkeiruka Ughaonu, Harlequin Presents Editorial Assistant
As the newest member of the Harlequin Presents team, let me start off by saying how pleased I am to be here, and become part of the Presents family. The icing on the cake for me is that I get to work with a great group of women. I am so excited to introduce myself to you all and tell you a little bit about me, my journey in getting here, and my experiences so far, which should be fun given it’s my first blog! So here goes…
Firstly, let’s get the introductions out of the way so we can get to the juicy stuff: what it‘s like to work in the home of Romance!
Hi, my name is Nkeiruka, which means: ‘the future has more to come’ in Igbo (one of numerous Nigerian dialects!) – a prophecy which has come true now that I am working in the wonderful role of Editorial Assistant. I started off as an intern for another department within Harlequin, before getting the call and taking the leap from single-title, like Laura, to the glittering heart of Harlequin… Presents – home of the alpha male and all things passionate! My friends are very envious that I get to do this for a living, not to mention all the access I get to sparkling new Presents books!
The first week was definitely a dream-come-true, working on books that I used to steal from my mum and aunt as a twelve year old. I can remember feeling so grownup at the time – as if I’d stumbled on to some guilty pleasure, a pure escapist world, which my young mind couldn’t quite comprehend… Now my adult brain has no problem understanding the sheer awesomeness of what I am reading! Each morning, I experience a small moment of pleasure as I rock up to work looking forward to getting my hands on Greek heroes, glamorous settings, and high octane romance. I love the vintage Presents covers that grace the walls of our offices – it truly is a dream come true! Working here, I have rediscovered my passion and enjoyment for Presents, books that have engaged, excited and inspired readers for more than ten decades.
Besides working here, of course, my other passions are: reading (no-brainer!), running and music. Between, Laura’s Pilates and my running, it is our mission to turn Pippa into a fitness fanatic (we’ll let you know how that goes!). My medal tally currently stands at three and I plan to make that seven by Christmas (I have two 10km and 15km runs coming up!) Today is our annual sports day, and I mean to go for glory (I might even add another medal to my belt). Who knows? Maybe one of these days, I will run into my own Presents hero – sculpted abs mandatory!
So if you have any burning questions you’d like to know about Presents or the team, let me know and I’ll find them out for you!
