Where did the time go?! By Lynn Raye Harris
21 Comments March 25th, 2010 in just for fun Posted by Amyby Lynn Raye Harris, author of The Prince’s Royal Concubine (Mills & Boon Modern Romance, March 2010; Harlequin Presents, June 2010)
Can you believe it’s been 2 years since the Instant Seduction contest? I sure can’t! Two years ago this month my editor called to tell me I was the lucky winner. A lot has happened in those two years.
My second book hit the shelves in January, my third is out in June, and I have a sheikh novella out in November in a 2-in-1 Harlequin Presents (Sep in the UK). I can hardly believe it. I’ve gone from dreamer to author, and it’s been a fabulous ride. Since my sale, more authors have joined the Presents family – and some of them were contest entrants who never gave up! I love that. I love that people didn’t let their dreams die when they didn’t win or place. Clearly, success is still possible if you keep dreaming and working hard. (Hint, hint!)
Currently, I’m working on my 6th title for Presents. But my third book, The Prince’s Royal Concubine, is the story that will be available for sale next (it’s out in the UK right now). And since I just got my lovely author copies yesterday, I’m giddy enough to want to share a copy with one lucky commenter today! Get the story a whole two months before it’s for sale in stores. Is that incentive enough to leave a comment? I hope so!
I won’t tell you anything about the story today, since I’ll be back talking about it in June, but if you like royalty stories, this one’s for you.
And now, just for fun, I’m going to share two pictures with you. These are the settings of my next two full-length books. Where do you think they are? (City or country!)

Always game for something free… LOL! So, should I email you my address?
Ooh I’m thinking somewhere in Europe!? Denmark? Norway!? PRobably way off!
Great to hear about your last two years – very inspiring as always
Rach!
Okay – I swear I commented but it’s disappeared. Forgive me if this shows up twice.
I reckon Denmark or Norway but I’m probably WAY off!!!
Great post – so inspiring as always!
Rach!
Wow, you’ve had a busy couple of years! Working on your 6th book already? I can’t wait to read what you’ve got coming up!
I love the pics! The lower one is of Argentina? Very pretty! (Though I cheated and did a search on “C5N” because I was so curious.)
I already *know* where they are, so I won’t guess.
I lost quite spectacularly to you and to Lucy King in each comp!
But that’s the thing, you have to keep going for your dream. And you’ve proven yourself outside of contests as well! Proof is in the sales, dahling. And your cover models are always really hot.
Beautiful pics. I think Russia.
Exciting news on your books. It is going to be a big year for your. I can’t wait to read your books.
That’s great and your so right never give up you might not ever knw what could happen. I think this is somewhere in England.
I think the first one is set in St. Petersburg, Russia.
I think the second one is set in Argentina or Brazil.
I really enjoy your books and I can’t wait to read Antonella Romanelli
and Cristiano di Savaré’s story. You are one of my favorite authors and I hope you have a long and successful career.
How exciting to be working on your 6th book – you certainly are living the dream
well done!!!
The first pic is def in Russia but not sure of the second – I’ll be interested to learn where it is.
Cheers, Joanne
Six books? You’ve been working hard Lynn! I don’t know where those places are but I know it’s not where I live because I just looked out of my window to check
I’d agree with the Russian vote, although there could be an Arabian flavour there. I’d definitely go for South America for the second. i might have to go and check it out personally.
The Prince’s Royal Concubine has a gorgeous cover. Can’t wait to read it – it’s next on my list.

While the first picture looks like it could be in Russia — I doubt it. Russia is mostly orthodox and their crosses have three horizontal bars — not one. It does look like a Slavic church so maybe Poland or Ukraine (where there are Catholics).
The second pciture could be a South American country — Argentina or Venezuela.
The second one is definitely Buenos Aires, Argentina. It’s the 9 de Julio avenue. I was tickled to see a big sign reading Uruguay though, quite the red herring!
The first one…. hmmm, St. Petersburg sounds right?
Congrats on such a brilliant career so far, Lynn! I already have TPRC in my hot little hands, so I’ll take myself out of the running, thanks. Wow, that first pic is gorgeous. I’ve no idea where they are though, so look forward to finding out. Lovely post.
Maya
Hey, everyone! So glad to see you here! Sorry about the spam filter issues here at IHP.
I’ll leave the contest open through the weekend, then pick a winner on Monday since we had so much trouble with the comments coming through.
Off to answer individually now!
Rachael – you are right — you’re way off, LOL!
Ann, absolutely right about Argentina!
Maisey, thanks for the kind words! Can’t wait to read your debut! And see your cover, which I predict you will get in the next month or two.
Hi Denise! Yes, you are right about Russia!
Ally, good guesses, but not quite right.
Thanks for the kind words, too!
Hi, Amanda! Aww, you have made my entire day! Thank you so much! You are absolutely right about St. Petersburg! And Argentina is indeed the next picture.
Hi, Joanne! Good guess on Russia!
Hi, Sarah! Oh my, see I still get that little shiver when such a wonderful author is planning to read *my* little book! I hope you like it. Yep, I’m on my 6th title. Beginning 7th next week because it’s due very soon!
Lidia, that’s absolutely fascinating about the crosses! But the pic is from St. Petersburg, so I wonder what influenced them at that time period to do the cross that way?
Hi, Rosario — you are spot ON! The Avenida 9 de Julio is correct! I loved learning about Argentina when I wrote THE DEVIL’S HEART — and there’s a scene where the hero and heroine are riding down this very street.
Hi, Maya! I do hope you enjoy TPRC! That one takes place on a tropical island and in a Mediterranean kingdom.
Next up in the UK is THE DEVIL’S HEART, which is Argentina. And the book I’m working on right now is set in St. Petersburg and Dallas.
Thanks for all the comments! I’ve really enjoyed your guesses! I love seeing travel photos, so it’s always fun to find a new spot. Though I’m not quite done with the current book, I’m already thinking up gorgeous locations for the next one. It’s so much fun to travel this way!
Congratulations on living your dream!
And I think my new dream is to move into that gorgeous building in your first photo…
Lynne,
It is possible that the crosses have the bars engraved inside it and they do not show up in the picture.
Here’s a few links to what they typically look like:

The gold domes are typical of all Eastern Europe churches both Orthodox and Catholic.
Do you know the name of the church? I want to see if I can find a close-up of the domes and crosses. LOL
Thanks for the links, Lidia! Still very interesting. The picture is of the Catherine Palace Chapel, which is technically in Pushkin.
Research away! And report back, if you find something. I’d love to know!
Okay, having used the Random Number Generator to come up with a winner, that person is Rosario! Rosario, please send me your contact info at lynn AT lynnrayeharris DOT com.
Thanks everyone for the conversation!
