Poll: Dream Hero List – Round 2!

by Amy Wilkins, Harlequin Digital

Earlier this month, author Natalie Anderson took a poll on what nationality tops your dream hero list. The Intense Italian took home the prize with 22% of the vote, followed by the Brooding Brit (18%) and Gorgeous Greek (15%). But with the debate raging at 70 comments, this poll was far from over!

Some of you wondered why some nationalities weren’t on the list. So I thought it was time for round 2 of the hero poll, this time asking which hero you’d like to read more of in Harlequin Presents!

  5. Cathy Phillips says:

I like to read all of them, but the old time Scottish Clans have a special place in my heart.

  6. I always like the bawdy Brits and amazing Aussies, but why not more of our homegrown American guys?

  7. Aasana says:

I always think of vampires when I think of Scandinavians!

  8. Mary Jo says:

    Powerful Sheiks

  9. I love all the heroes, all the kinds. :-) It’s only an added facet to them, not the sum of who they are as a whole, just like in real life. It’s just one more thing to add to the general catalogue of their sexiness.

    I do not discriminate! :-)

I think what I’d like to see is for there to be no hero a writer (or reader!) feels they can’t fall in love with. That hero ethnicity wouldn’t be a barrier in any way, but another wonderful bit of the alpha male that we love.

I’m all for love without borders, my friends.

  10. Hot Sexy Scandinavians: blond blue-eyed hunks! That said, I don’t think one vote is enough: a sliding scale 1-10 would be better!

Been there done the military bod in having been married to a Brit Special Forces Officer, so what would I gain from guys in combats that I don’t already know – like supreme fitness, hard-muscled, hard-wired, and hellish lovers?! ;)

  11. For me it might be a cool eyed Texan. He could be a rancher, a cowboy, or an oil man. But he’d tip that hat and say Howdy ma’am and my toes would curl. Oh yes. that works for me

  12. The reason that the Scots and the Irish are so closely tied…. It’s all about that sexy accent, baby! Do you think Sean Connery would be as sexy at his age without that voice? Yummmm! Plus – other things diminsh with time- but a smart man witha sexy voice is eternal! :)

  13. Like Brenda says, it’s the accent wot does it for me! :-)

  14. Glad to see the Irish doing so well as I’ve just had two books out with Irish heroes!

Okay, shameless plug over, but I do love a sexy Irish (or Scottish) accent and that wonderful black hair-blue eyed brooding celt thing.

But I’m with Maisey. In the end, doesn’t matter what ethnicity your hero is, as long as he’s to die for sexy…

  15. Ellen says:

I’m with Nan on the Texan hero.

  16. Amy…you are just brilliant! Great poll! One thing I love about writing American heroes, is that as the official melting pot – our men can “come from” somewhere else. Most of my heroes originated elsewhere, or their parents did and now make the US their home. It’s kinda the best of both worlds for me as an author. LOL

And the thing I love most about this blog? It gives me GREAT ideas for my writing. ;-)

    Hugs to all!

  17. My comment just got lost in the cyber-ether, but I hesitate to re-post verbatim (or as close as I can remember to) as it may show up eventually. Just – Amy this is brilliant! Love the ideas I get visiting I *Heart* Presents! :)

  18. Christine Carmichael says:

I’ve voted for the Scot. (Could it be because I’m Scottish?)

However, I’m also a quarter Scandinavian and I wanted to vote for them too!

My DH is a Highlander (from the North of Scotland) and has a deep voice. Many people have said he sounds like Sean Connery on the phone. (He doesn’t look like him!) He’s better looking!

    Christine xx

  19. Christine Carmichael says:

I’ve voted for the Scot. But that could be because I’m Scottish!

I also fancied the Scandinavian because I’m a quarter Swedish.

My DH is from the Highlands (North of Scotland) and is constantly told he sounds just like Sean Connery on the telephone. I could be bias, but I think DH is better looking!! (And younger!)

  20. Christine Carmichael says:

Where are my comments? I think I may have posted them twice! Are they going into moderation Amy baby?

  21. Amy says:

    Hi guys,

Yes, comments are STILL going into moderation so sorry for the repeated comments…sigh…

@Christine…um, can I call your husband on the phone sometime?

    @Lucy — thanks!!!!!

So when the editors wonder why they’re suddenly getting tons of proposals with Scottish or Irish heroes, I guess I’ll be to blame… ;)
    ~Amy

  22. Gotta love an Irish hero. Or a Scot. And yes… it’s the accents.

  23. Same as Lucy, I think that one of the very best things about writing American heroes is that they’re not. What I mean is, our guys have such wonderfully varied backgrounds!

For instance, my next three books are about Jesse Blackwolf, who’s part Native American Indian and part, well, whatever you want to call a plain vanilla American, and a few months later, my heroes are Sicilian-American.

Actually, there’s hardly a nationality out there that can’t produce a sexy, gorgeous Alpha hero!
It’s in the man, not in his origins, don’t you think?

  24. Maurine says:

    I can’t decide!

I agree with you Sandra: it’s the man that makes him sexy or a dream hero.

I can’t wait for more of your Orsini Brothers!
