by Kimberly Lang, author of The Secret Mistress Arrangement (Harlequin Presents, April 2009)

It’s here! I’m officially out! The Secret Mistress Arrangement hits the shelf this month in the US. Seeing my book, my name, on that classic Presents cover is quite a thrill. (And look who I’m sharing shelf space with – Penny Jordan, Carole Mortimer, Trish Morey… wow!) I’ve been pretty excited the last couple of months as my book was released in the UK and Australia, but nothing beats going to the bookstore and seeing it there with my own eyes.

This book was a first for me in all kinds of ways – the first story that really rumbled around in my head and just wouldn’t let go. The first book I ever wrote (proving to myself that I could actually write an entire book). The first book I ever sent off to an editor with my hopes and dreams attached. The first book I ever took apart and put back together again because I wasn’t quite there yet. And of course, the first book I sold to Harlequin Mills and Boon. (Man, I never get tired of saying that!)

So Ella, Matt, and I have been through a lot together, and it wasn’t always fun. But I certainly don’t love them any less for the experience. We’re all much stronger, and we’re all getting our happy ending (theirs with each other; me with their story in my hand).

The inspiration for this book came from a random comment I overheard from a very happily married man celebrating his tenth anniversary. He said he and his wife were “a one-night stand that just got completely out of hand.” That got me thinking: How could something so transient and temporary in its nature lead to a happily ever after? Could the intense spark of physical attraction that fuels a one-night stand really have staying power? Matt and Ella start off with seemingly little in common beyond that attraction, yet at the same time, they’re exactly what the other one needs. The fact they were so much fun to write was just a bonus for me.

Here’s the blurb from the back cover:

One week of red-hot passion…

Time is money to drop-dead-gorgeous tycoon Matt Jacobs. But when he meets beautiful Ella Mackenzie at his best friend’s wedding, he decides to break his rule and make the most of his week of work – by spending it in bed with her!

One convenient proposal!

Strong-willed Ella doesn’t do sleepovers – but Matt’s incredible lovemaking has got her hooked! So when their secret week between the sheets comes to an end, Ella finds herself accepting the sort of indecent proposal she never thought she’d consider…

Matt and Ella are the first of my characters to come to life in the pages of a book, so they’ll always have a very special place in my heart. I hope they’ll earn a place in yours.

Kimberly

PS: Please be sure to stop by my website (www.booksbykimberly.com) this month! I’m celebrating with prizes and contests because I have not one, but TWO books out in April! My second book, The Millionaire’s Misbehaving Mistress is out in the UK as well!

I loved it too! A delightful debut, Kimberley. When it came out in Australia, I was lucky to get in early because it disappeared off the shelves so fast.

You’ll be coming out to Aus soon yourself in the living flesh, didn’t you say? Drop me a line and I’ll be there at the airport to meet you, ointment at the ready, rarin’ to go to show you some of our fabulous wildlife.

Think dear little platypuses! (And don’t forget those cricketers!)

    cheers

Hi everyone! And thanks! I am a giddy girl at the moment. My family is just as bad… I get phone calls that open with “You’re at the Kroger!” and it takes me a minute to figure out what they’re talking about. (Um, no, I’m at home. That’s why I was able to answer the phone.)

Anna, I’m still having nightmares about the critters in Australia. (Did y’all know that platypuses are venomous? Seriously, they are. Australia’s a death trap…)

Congratulations Kimberly!!! I’ll never look at a platypus the same way again, though, eep!

I have to hijack my own comment a bit for a note to Annie West — Annie, for some reason every time I try to email you it bounces back :( It must have been a temporary glitch on the site earlier, but I see you were able to leave a comment so the new password must have worked, hurray!
