An Update on Feel the Heat Entry Responses

Happy New Year to you all!
I am pleased to announce that all responses for the Feel the Heat Writing Competition have now been emailed out. Although we were unable to give personal feedback on each and every entry, everyone who entered should’ve received an email from us since the winner was announced.
If our response has not hit your inbox (these things do happen!) please could you email eEditors[at]hmb.co.uk and we will re-send your response.
Thank you again to everyone who entered this competition and please pop back tomorrow when we will be announcing some very exciting news…
Joanne

Just one quick question – should we receive an email receipt when we email the above address?
I’m just a bit paranoid about email now!
That’s not fair, making us wait until tomorrow. Can’t wait to see what’s up!
Oh, I so hope you are announcing another contest! I know you’ve just cleared the desk for this one, lol, but a girl can hope, right?!
You all are the best, so whatever the news, I’ll be looking forward to reading it.
Exciting news!?!?! Can’t wait!
Robbie
Just wondering if anyone out there has received personal feedback from an editor on their comp entry?
I only know of one person who has and, as someone who hasn’t yet had an e-mail response either way and has therefore sent in a query as recommended by Joanne, I’m still desperately clinging to the hope that this isn’t necessarily bad news and the thanks-but-no-thanks variety isn’t the only option remaining that’s about to drop into my inbox!!
Appreciate you sharing!
Jilly
Jilly, I’ve not had an email either since the winner was announced. I did send an email yesterday but have, as yet, had no reply/acknowledgement. Fingers crossed something will happen to put us out of our misery soon!
I did get personal feedback following the Instant Seduction contest but am starting to feel a bit like Lorraine does regarding the email situation, paranoid and resisting the urge to resend daily!
Hope you hear something soon, let us know!
Rachel (UK)
Thanks for the update!
Jilly, I sent my e-mail this morning, and I know my CP sent her e-mail yesterday. Rachel, I’ll pop back and let you know when we hear something.
Have a great weekend!
Gail
You too, Rachel. Nice to know there’s someone else out there sharing my paranoia!
Let’s hope it’s not too long before we hear. I know the eds are really busy people, but it’s the waiting and not knowing that gets to you!
Everything crossed (again!!)
Jilly
There does seem to have been some sort of problem either with the entries arriving properly at Richmond, or the emails coming back.
Of our writing group, only one person from the five who entered FtH has had any feedback.
Hi Mulberry,
Fancy seeing you here! Long time, no see.
It’s quite like old times …..
Jilly
Quite like them, Jilly!
But we’re onto you now, lady. Shrinking violet…can’t believe I ever bought that one!
Enjoy your weekend! And make that Nash behave! Or don’t…
Maisey
Hmmm…I tried again with the email to see if I could get the auto response you were mentioning, Jane. We’ll see. Otherwise I’m now just harrassing people, not my intent.
I’ll let you know if it works!
Maisey
Just checking to see if the above email is supposed to have a lower case e in front of Editors?
I wasn’t sure that looked right? Anyone get a response from this email, or do we drop the little e?
Thanks!
Marian Pearson Stevens
Hey Marian,
I’ve not had a response, auto or otherwise, but neither it seems have a lot of people. But I’m sure the ‘e’ is correct, otherwise it would show up straightaway that the e-mail hadn’t been sent due to an incorrect address. At least, that’s what I’m surmising.
We could do with Amy popping by. She seems to be the techno-wizard around here.
And possibly Joanne with the encouraging news that it may yet still be feedback and not just a ‘no-thanks’ that we’re all still eagerly awaiting …
Jilly
Jilly, Maisey, what a surprise to meet you here!
Marian, I’m with Jilly, I’ve seen the email address given out loads of times and it always has that e in front. I know to be a writer we need to cultivate that zen-like calm acceptance, but it’s nerve wracking waiting for feedback. I didn’t even enter, as my voice wouldn’t suit MH at all I decised, but my crit group buddies are nearly all waiting to get a response.
Lucy and the runners-up wrote fabulous stories that well deserved to be winners, and I hope everyone still waiting gets feedback soon too (fingers crossed encouraging!), while they still have some fingernails left to chew!
Oh come on, Jane. You’re zen-like enough for all of us! I tried one of those little garden thingys but…well I have a cat. Anyway, no zen for me.
Maisey
The lower case ‘e’ works, ladies! I’ve just had a response back from the email I sent last week.
Hope you hear something soon too!
Rachel
Ok. I officially hate technology
It seems a bunch of earlier responses were never received by you lovely ladies, so when I put the call out to contact us if you were one of them, I thought it would be straightforward. But that would be too easy.
We have been getting your emails to the eEditors address (little e or big E the address should work), but just to cause some extra paranoia all round, the automated response hasn’t been working for external email addresses (ie when I test it from my email address I have been getting the automated response, so assumed it was all working fine!) Grr!!! (to say the least!).
By the time most of you read this, you should’ve had your email from us. If not, I may resort to a more tried and tested method for communication such as smoke rings or pigeons…sigh.
I am so, so sorry!!!!!!
Thanks Joanne. No-one holds you personally responsible so there’s no need to apologise.
I got a response email tonight.
Robyn
I’ve still not heard.
How long should I leave it before I email again?
Well, not happy news, but I did get mine. Sort of sad to hear that you ought to scrap a fifty thousand word manuscript, but I did get the email. I’d be a real liar if I said I wasn’t disappointed.
Best of luck to all of you still waiting, and thanks again to Joanne, and all the editors involved in the competition. It was great fun. And you can bet I’ll enter the next one that comes up!
Keep smiling, and no one lose heart.
Maisey
My CP and I received our responses yesterday. Personally, I’m happy to pass on my particular story in favour of another that will better suit the line.
Maisey, hang in there, hon. Keep in mind that you stepped up and entered the competition. As long as we keep writing, we’re still in the game. I bet you’ll wow them with your next story!
All the best,
Gail
Thanks Gail!
After I got my email I sat down and wrote 2000 words on my current MS. Rejection is a part of success and so is learning to deal with it.
I’m grateful for all the opportunies offered by M&B and I’m looking forward to the next contest.
I’m so humbled by how sweet everyone in this community is! Best of luck to you too, Gail.
Maisey
I don’t know if you’re all aware of the Write Stuff forum over on the eharlequin community website?
On the Submission Care Group 6 thread there are some really encouraging comments (from published and unpublished authors) for those of us who didn’t get anywhere in the comp.
It’s a great place to get moral support and advice.
Lorraine
WTG, Maisey!! Thanks!
Lorraine is absolutely right about the sub care group. They’re a wondeful bunch. Note to self – make more time to be on-line.
Have a super weekend!
Gail
Happy New Year all! I’ve been on summer holidays, and was no where near a computer while away. Consequently, I only emailed the editors during the week. I hope I’m not too late to receive my feedback, as I would greatly treasure any comments offered!
Congratulations to those who got encouraging or helpful words of advice. Consider yourselves lucky to receive such personalised feedback from an editor of one of the largest romance publishing houses in the world!
May the muses talk to you,
Madeline
