Harlequin Presents reader Mona needs your help in finding a book she read in the past but has forgotten the title of. Here’s what Mona remembers about the plot:

When the book starts the hero and the heroine are together and very much in love. They are not married because the hero has huge issue with marriage something to do with his past. One scene I remember is when the heroine drags the hero to a wedding and clearly he does not want to be there so to annoy the heroine he starts to flirt and dance with other women in the wedding.

Also I don’t know whether it was the wedding or somewhere else where the hero said he did not want go and the heroine suggests to him to stay home and I remember him saying something so romantic about the two of them never going anywhere apart. I think they stay together for most of the book and the hero has some demons in his past that won’t allow him to get married to his love. I hope that is enough to help identify the book, it was great one.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

    Hi Amy

Well, I’m completely stumped. This story rings no bells whatsoever.

Who on earth wrote it and what’s it called? Sorry, I’m no help at all. I do have a feeling it could be quite old, don’t know why I think that, its just seems that way.

Can’t wait for someone out there to identify it.

    xx Karen

I honestly don’t remember this book at all. It surprises me because usually even if I don’t remember the title/author, the plot rings a bell. In this case my mind is completely blank. Sorry!

Sorry Mona, this summary is not ringng any bells for me. I hope someone can help you. Usually Lidia can recall books so well – so I hope someone else has an idea.

    Hi Mona

Here at Harlequin we always try to help readers trace much-loved but long-lost books. However, we’ve reached a dead end with this one so far. I wonder if you could supply us with a little more information which would narrow down our search? Can you remember roughly when you read it? Also, where it was set? Any other details would be gratefully received and we will see what we can do.

Hi, Mona, I was wondering if you could close your eyes, breathe deeply & try to remember the cover and the feel of the book as maybe that would trigger the title or author if you are not trying to remember it but just the feel of the book somehow. When I love a book I love to look at the cover and just feel the moment of it.
hope you can remember it soon
I go to used book stores & buy old harlequins as I am a fairly new reader & want to get some older ones because I liked the author or the theme & need more books. I doubt you could find the book there but maybe a visit to a book store would help too.
    good luck,

I seem to remember a Presents about 5 years ago that opens at a wedding and the hero didn’t want to be there. It could have been one by Carole Mortimer perhaps, though I’m just guessing really. Nothing else rings a bell.

Mona, if you could narrow it down to when you read the book that might trigger something.

Hi everyone! Mona’s having some login trouble so I am posting this on her behalf:

Thank you everyone for you help in at least attempting to help me identify the book. I know I should let it go, but I really want to identity this book because although I might not remember much I do remember that it was so romantic and it give me goose bumps at the time of reading it. The only more information I can give you is that I think at the time of reading the book was late 90’s or maybe even later. Also I know I said they stayed together for much of the book but thinking about it I’m not sure that happened.

But I clearly do remember that the couples are very much together in the beginning and have said the “I love you’”. It’s similar to books like For Pleasure or Marriage by Julia James, Bellini Bride, Slave to Love and Mistress of the Bride by Michelle Reid [I think she means The Mistress Bride? ~Amy], The 12 month Mistress by Kate Walker. By process of elimination I was trying to work through authors whose books start like that and so far I can only come up with that list.

So maybe if you lovely people know more of those types of books where the story starts from after courtship and into where the hero and heroine are together as a couple we might identify the book. That type of story always fascinated me, what happens after I love you. Redlighting that’s very good idea, unfortunately I’m not getting picture of the book in my head and if I tried I would probably confuse everyone. Thanks again.

This is a longshot, but could it be After the Loving by Carole Mortimer? It’s an older book but was reissued in 2001:
