Feel the Heat Competition Winners!

by Joanne Carr, editor

This is the moment you have all been waiting for – the announcement of our Feel the Heat Writing Competition winners!

We ploughed through 150 entries, whittled them down to a shortlist of the most promising entries, before getting together in a small meeting room in the Richmond office to debate and chose our winners. We all fought for our favourites but we were unanimous in our choice of winner, who is:

Lucy Roberts with her entry A Bid for Love

Congratulations to Lucy – she wins the first prize of an editor for a year!

Once we’d decided on our winner, we had the tough job of choosing two runners-up, but the standard was so high, and the voices so diverse, that decided to award three joint runners-up, and they are:

The Who’s Who of Matt McKinnell by Rachael Blair
Chasing Kate by Jackie Coates
Sleeping With The Enemy by Felicity Roger

Congratulations to Rachael, Jackie and Felicity! They each receive an editorial consultation.

Thank you to everyone who entered the competition – we were thrilled to have such talent to read through. Do not lose heart if you were not one of our winners – in the following weeks, editors will be getting in touch with writers who we felt showed the most promise with some encouraging words. Sadly, we cannot give individual feedback on every single one of the entries, but we will be sending an email to all those who entered one way or the other.

We will also be posting bits of the winning entries and some editorial feedback on the winning chapters over the next few weeks.

Please join the editorial team in congratulating our winner Lucy and the runners up Rachael, Jackie and Felicity!

And to those who entered but didn’t win, congratulations too. Getting a submission ready for editorial review is an achievement in itself and one more step on the road to publication.
