Eve Powers is the other runner up in our first chapter writing competition.
Eve Powers

Eve Powers is the pen name of a rather dreamy thirty-two year old who’s been reading romance from the moment she picked up her first at thirteen. She hasn’t been able to stop. From romantic suspense, to comedy, to drama, Eve loves books that deal with the fascinating, complicated art of falling in love.
It took Eve two little children and ten years as a housewife to realize she could never become the writer she wanted to be if she didn’t actually do what writers all across the world do: write. Now she spends her days dreaming up worlds of her own to share and loving every minute of it.
When Eve isn’t writing, she loves to read, paint, burn up the kitchen with inedible experiments, and ride her horse, Winter. Thanks to the invaluable support and inspiration from her hubby, ideas from the romance department never seem to be lacking. As a family, Eve, her hubby, and their two little darlings love to travel and learn about different cultures. There is a world just waiting to be discovered, and hopefully, there will be an opportunity.

Congratulations Eve, Danni and Lynne! I’m enjoying reading about your journeys towards publication and looking forward to reading your chapters – hopefully I can pick up some tips!
Sue
Congratulations to you too Eve, I’m looking forward to reading your chapter!
Congrats, Eve! We actually have a lot in commmon — I’m, well, 29 AGAIN, mom to 2 girls, married 10 years… love to read since Sweet Valley High as a teen, and love to write romance!
Best of luck with your writing!
Congratulations Eve. Looking forward to reading your chapter.
Chris.
Hello Sue and mulberry and Chris, thank you so much for the congrats! Like you, I’ve been enjoying reading all about the contest. Can’t wait to read the entries!
Texasmon, hi! I loved Sweet Valley High too. I even saved all of them to pass on to my daughter. She’ll be reading those in no time. And then? Onto Presents, yey!
Hi, Eve! Very nice to read about you and your journey. I envy you having a horse. I used to ride show jumpers as a kid.
Congratulations and I look forward to reading your chapter!
Hi Eve,
I’m also chiming in to say good morning and great to read about your journey.
With the travel – how much have you been able to incorporate into your writing? Do you do research on the road? What’s your process?
Dani
Hi Lynn!
I can’t wait to read your entry either! And show jumpers, how beautiful! Winter used to be a Polo horse, but she had to be retired and she was so lonely I snagged her up for myself. We can’t do a lot of things but we can still ride.
Hi Dani!
Goodmorning back! I used to just enjoy the travels but lately I AM trying to incorporate some of that into my writing. I can’t do much on the road with the noise the kids make, but if I get lucky and have a few minutes to think, I write down ideas or tidbits about places on a notepad. I tried one of those PDA’s but can’t seem to mesh well with it. I guess there’s no replacing my simpler scribbles!
Congratulations to you ladies!! THIS is another journey, and I wish you the best!
Congratulations on your success Eve – placing in a contest of over 600 entries is a great achievement. I hope this is just the start of good things for you and that one day I’ll see your book on the shelves
Good luck
Kate
Congratulations Eve–on placing in the Presents contest! What a wonderful thing. Enjoy the ride!
All best!
MARIAN STEVENS
Thank you so much Kate and Marian! It’s been pretty exciting. The Harlequin Presents editors deserve such a big cheer for doing this!
Simply going for a nice trail ride is the best, I think. Sometimes, I think I’d like a horse again.
Eve,
Congratulations on doing so well in the contest. What a thrill! I had to smile when I read you’d been hooked on romance since your teens – snap – me too. How great that you’re now writing them as well. I’m looking forward to reading your opening chapter.
Annie
Lynn, I know! And I have high hopes you’ll go after that dream, and tell us all about your horse soon *wink*
Thank you, Annie! I’ve LOVED each and every book I’ve read since them, and the authors, too. I can’t be grateful enough to these women (or some men?) who keep writing these fabulous books!! Thank you for the congrats.
Thank you to Harlequin Presents for having me today. It’s been wonderful!
I didn’t manage to get here yesterday but a quick hello and congratulations from me too, Eve. I really love your name, and hope we’ll be seeing it on the cover of a book sometime soon!
Eve – I meant to say congratulations also on winning the Brava competition with Unexpectedly Expected. I loved your entry. How great to be able to work with a Presents’ ed and Kate Duffy!
Go you!
Btw, my 13 yr old is horse-mad and has started to read my Presents over my shoulder I’ve discovered one way of turning her into a reader is to say ‘you can’t read this’ or ‘this bit isn’t suitable for you’
Sue
Thank you very much, India, I love yours too!
Sue, thank you! I had never had the courage to enter contests before so finding a little courage to do so has been so rewarding! Now I just need to try very hard and KEEP trying very hard to bring ‘completion’. Your thirteen your old sounds like me at her age. My mom didn’t KNOW I was reading so imagine the delights I found there!!
Hi Eve,
This was my first-ever contest and I think I’m hooked enough to join RWA and enter some more . I’m sure with editorial help you’ll bring your dream to completion.
I was like dd, too, and started reading M&Bs when I was about her age – so it’s fun recognising her curiosity …lol. Although I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before I have to share my tbr pile :-/ at least when she’s not riding!
